Makoto Nomura has developed the potential of the basic formats of music, namely composition and performance, in various forms. The components of the audiovisual series that he co-produced with Yukihiro Nomura are all titled “Music of …” in which Makoto Nomura can be seen giving impromptu performances in various locations. There are distinct moments in the images where the special nature of the place and the power of the music itself resonate and vibrate. In particular, in Music of Zoorasia, Makoto Nomura is filmed as he tries to establish a musical rapport with the animals in the Zoorasia Zoo in Yokohama. As it unfolds, the animals become both the audience and the performers and are in the unique position of prescribing at the same time as releasing the sounds. The animals are the special subject of these contemporary images, although it is sometimes unclear which is the artist and which is the viewer.
