Taro Izumi’s video works use photographic and editing techniques to show funny things happening in familiar settings. He does not employ high-end technology, instead using tools that are physically familiar to him, and adopts a flexible approach to the time and space in his images. In Polar Bear House, he uses models of the once highly popular polar bear to create mysterious scenes that would not be possible in reality and combines audio-visual equipment such as monitors and projectors with things that we normally see, to produce the effect of his work becoming an extension of the everyday.
