O Contemporary Korean Shorts Collection
〈Selected by Suh Jinsuk〉As society continues to develop at an accelerated rate, a backlash against society is occurring that has created instability. A selection of films that depict Korean society in an experimental way from various perspectives and attempt to reinvigorate audiovisual culture.
About the Program
The development of technology and new changes in the 21st century society are yet again changing our response system. The cultural consumers today have deeper and wider sense of aesthetic values and are more visual and multi-sensual. Such phenomenon is causing to disassemble and furthermore conscilent the boundaries of genres within visual culture. The distinctive boundaries in movies, animations, video arts have already been dismantled. The public of 21st century does neither interpret nor respond with predetermined perspectives when viewing one classified genre. In other words, one does not view a video art based on the video art codes, nor does one interpret a movie with the cognitive movie codes. This is because all is just a same moving image.
The Korean moving images for this festival are comprised of variety of works produced by such moving image creators as movie directors, video artists, image performers, and animation directors. The speed and condensed growth of Korean society have provoked uncertainty, which is the opposite of dynamic, a confrontational social phenomenon causing reactions from the creators of visual images and generating opportunities for exposure. Also working as a motive for reinvigorating social functions of art in Korea’s visual culture, the works featured are based on narratives that illustrate a fragment of Korean society and experimental moving images scenes. As such, Moving Image Festival will provide a great opportunity to recognize the changes in viewing system for the contemporary moving images in 21st century.
