remo (record, expression, media organization) was launched in Osaka in 2002. As its name indicates, remo operates across a wide area. As well as its involvement with citizens’ media where information is sent out into society by individuals rather than by the mass media, it also conducts workshops on video art and image production and collects 8mm films lying around people’s homes gathering dust. In today’s world with its advanced information and communication technology, the producing and recording of images, the sending and receiving of information, expression and information and science and aesthetics are intertwined and it is difficult to separate one from the other. remo’s diverse activities contain a coherent strategy that responds to the question of whether the medium of images is capable of taking on a more micro-resistant, freer form in such circumstances.
