Past and present image arts presented by one of the most influential researchers on films and moving images. An introductory discussion on films encompassing the forum.
- CREAM Forum Keynote Lecture - 35 Years Later : "The Unattainable Text" Revisited
- Date: October 31(Sat.) 13:00 - 14:30
- Guest: Raymond Bellour (C.N.R.S.)
- Outline: Bellour defined the text of films as “unattainable text” in his essay of the same title published in 1975, which can be, compared with literature, extracted only imperfectly with words. 35 years since then, while DVDs in particular have enabled us to “attain” film texts more easily, many different types of works of film appearing in the contemporary art scene since the 1990s continue to attract audiences as “unattainable text”. By making reference to a variety of examples such as works by Michael Snow, Bill Viola, Agnès Varda, Danielle Vallet Kleiner and James Coleman, our experience of films and moving images in the contemporary world is discussed as the introduction to this forum.
