There are currently numerous video distribution and sharing websites such as YouTube on the Internet, but NICO NICO DOUGA stand out from the rest with their facility for viewers to write comments. The comment system allows viewers not only to express their opinion about a particular video, but also to share their thoughts and feelings with others who have seen the same video. This results in an extremely unique mode of communication and formation of communities. The exhibition features, in a special Festival for Arts and Media Yokohama 2009 version, extracts from the comments without the visual and audio elements of the video. By concealing the video related to the comments, the comments themselves interrelate, react and resonate with each other.
