楽器を使わずにレコードを自由自在に演奏する実験的なサウンド・パフォーマンス、視覚体験によって音を感じさせる作品などで音楽と美術の両方の分野で高い評価を受けてきた。視覚と聴覚との結びつきを探り続けてきたマークレーが、コンピュータ技術を使って膨大な数の映画からの引用によって構成される映像の四重奏を制作した。互いに関連性のない映画のシーンが音によって繋ぎ合わされ、それはまるで映画をめぐる私たちの集団的記憶のようにも見える。

クリスチャン・マークレイ / USA
Visual artist, sound performer and composer. Born 1955 in California, raised in Switzerland. Lives and works in New York. Marclay began using turntables for his sound and art performance in 1979. More recently, he has created work in a variety of media and collaborated with many musicians. He has exhibited including solo exhibitions at Moderna Museet, Stockhol (2006), Barbican Art Gallery, London (2005), Seattle Art Museum (2004), Tate Modern, London (2004), UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2003), and the SFMoMA, San Francisco (2001). Group exhibitions include SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico (2003), Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2001) and Hayward Gallery, London (2000).
